Great Big Green Week 2022: The Power of Second Hand Clothes and Collaboration

It's almost here! Gateshead Great Big Green Week begins on 24th September and runs until the 2nd October, and is all about how we can act as a community to tackle climate change.

To celebrate Great Big Green Week we are putting on some super exciting events for everyone to get involved with.

Clothes Swap - September 29

Tired of having too many clothes and yet nothing to wear? Come to our Clothes Swap at Caedmon Hall, Gateshead with 5-10 pieces of quality clothing in excellent condition at 6pm and at 6.45pm we will start swapping! While you wait we'll hear a fabulous talk from Eliot Smith Dance on climate, fashion and culture via the medium of dance.

We are delighted to be supported by Gateshead Council during this event and the £5 entry fee goes to the Comfrey Project. A representative from the Comfrey Project will also be giving a talk about the important work that they do on the night.

"The Comfrey Project is a place where everyone is made to feel at home and everyone is encouraged to play an active role. Our volunteers, who are people seeking asylum and refugees living in the North East, put in as much as they gain, sharing their skills and knowledge with others and helping to make decisions about how the organisation is run."

Breakfast for a Better Gateshead - September 29

Do you lead a Gateshead-based social enterprise or community initiative? Then come along to our Breakfast for a Better Gateshead from 8am to 10am on Thursday 29 September. We would love to hear about what you're doing and how we can work towards building a better Gateshead together.

Helen to Give Free Talks to Schools, Groups and Other Organisations

Could your school, group or organisation benefit from a FREE talk on fast fashion?
During the Great Big Green Week Helen Redfern from Green Heart Collective is offering to deliver an assembly, lecture or workshop about the devastating impact of fast fashion on the climate and the sustainable alternatives to fast fashion. Helen's diary is filling up with talks already arranged at Gateshead College and local Primary Schools.

Helen has a background of writing school assemblies for SPCK and Optimus Education. She has a talent for presenting a topic in an engaging and challenging way, and can adapt the material to suit any audience.
